The model 499 is a compact survival knife in the style of classic U.S. fighting knives of the 40s. It features a close to 13cm clip point blade with a zinc phospate coating made of 1095 Carbon steel.- The maximum thickness of 4.75mm makes the blade as sturdy as required for survival purposes.
The OKC 499 features a saw spine, the handle is made of compressed leather discs, which - of course - will not remain as light as pictured if the knife is in use.....
Ontario ships the 499 Survival knife with a brown leather belt sheath with an accessory pocket including a small sharpening stone for to go.
Compared to the Short USMC from KA-BAR, the OKC 499 has a slightly larger handle (as pictured above) and therefore is more qualified for bigger hands.....
